Homework assigned in class is still due regardless of whether it is on PoweSchool or not. It is designed only as a tool to help remind students of that which is due. It is not meant to replace the diligent use of agendas or homework scribblers.
Trenton Middle School will begin “In Good Standing”. “In Good Standing” or IGS is a noon program that has two components. One component is voluntary. Everyday at lunch, from 11:45 – 12:20, students may go into the IGS room (Rm. 212) to work on any homework/assignments they may have in the near future. This will be especially useful for those students in many extra-curricular activities (both in and out of school) as they may not have time to complete these assignments at home.
The other component is mandatory. If a student does not pass in an assignment on time, they will be referred to the IGS program until it is completed. Again these IGS periods are during lunch hours (11:45-12:10). If a student had an assignment due during periods 1 to 3, the student will be referred to the IGS program that day. If the student does not complete the assignment during IGS that day, they may choose to complete it that night and pass it in during the next IGS period. Once passed in completed and satisfactory, the student is no longer required to attend IGS. If the student does not pass in an assignment that is due during periods 4 & 5, the student is referred to IGS program the next day. The student may choose to complete the assignment that night and pass it in during the next IGS period. Once passed in completed and satisfactory, the student is no longer required to attend IGS.
If this does not occur, the student will be referred to administration. If the student continues to not attend IGS, the student in will be assigned an afterschool detention to complete the assignment on a daily basis (from 2:35 to 3:05 pm) until the assignment is completed. If a student fails to pass in an assignment in the allotted time, a mark of zero will be permanently entered in GradeBook. These cut-off dates for assignments are in October, November, February, March, May, and June. Exact dates will be communicated using student agendas and the Powerschool Parent/Student Portal.
In Good Standing follows the CCRSB ASSESSMENT / EVALUATION / REPORTING OF STUDENT LEARNING “PROCEDURES AND GUIDELINES” HANDBOOK
